Yvonne is in Victoria!
Yvonne is in Victoria!
Where in the world is Yvonne these days? Victoria, BC! And tonight (Tuesday August 6), she'll be attending the opening reception of Remembering Amelia at Open Space (510 Fort Street).
Remembering Amelia celebrates the contributions of dance maverick Amelia Itcush, dance artist, teacher, fitness pioneer and one of the country's finest somatic movement analysts. Regina's New Dance Horizons has produced a touring exhibition and a series of movement workshops to honour Itcush, which will touch down at Open Space in Victoria, BC from August 6 to 10.
Remembering Amelia opens a conversation about everyday movement habits and invites exploration of Itcush's still reverberating legacy and ideas. Remembering Amelia draws from diverse sources, including dance, performance art, ergonomics, play, and movement. Curator Robin Poitras has charted the trickle-down effect of Amelia Itcush's contributions, "Amelia's influence is apparent in somatic training through to its influence upon dance creation and ultimately in dance performance. Her teachings and practice have accumulated in the experiences of others much like a reservoir from which dancers and health practitioners consciously and unconsciously tap and manifest in their own work. In this way, Remembering Amelia traces those branchings and creates a way for artists and the public to recognize and learn from them."
The opening reception is tonight (Tuesday August 6) at 7:00.
