Back to Batoche Days
Back to Batoche Days
As has become annual tradition, Yvonne has returned to the Métis homeland for Back to Batoche Days. Check out this video from the event organizers, to see highlights from Day 2:
In addition to all the fiddling, jigging, food, games and fun, this year's celebrations included the historic return of Marie-Antoinette, the bell that had been claimed as a war trophy in 1884, at the Battle of Batoche. Watch a short video about this historic moment here:
CTV Saskatoon also did a story about it.
Don't know the story of the bell? I recommend you check it out - it's a story full of intrigue that will make you mad, sad - and glad, now that it has a happy ending! The CBC posted an interesting article about it, and the Wikipedia page is also pretty good. And you can listen to a song composed for this historic moment by Andrea Menard and Robert Walsh on the Gabriel Dumont Institute website, for only a buck!
